Guðný Guðmundsdóttir was born in Reykjavík in 1850. She died in Winnipegosis, Manitoba on June 17, 1940.
Spouse: Stefán Friðbjörnsson b. 1839 in N. Múlasýsla, d. in Iceland.
Children: 1. Ásgeir b. 1876 2. Ingiríður b. 1883 3. Þórunn b. 1885 4. Guttormína Kristín b. 1891.
Guðný came west to Winnipeg, as a widow with her daughter Guttormína in 1893. They moved from Winnipeg to Ingiríður, who arrived there a year earlier. She was noted by Finnbogi Hjálmarsson in 1930 in the Almanak: “Guðný is an intelligent and excellent woman, she now lives with Þorsteinn and Ingiríður, her daughter, and is almost eighty years old. She is knowledgeable about ancient times, reads a lot and has good eyesight and memory, spins and knits much more than the young girls nowadays.”
