Guðný Ólöf Sigfúsdóttir was born at Grænavatn in Mývatnssveit on April 26, 1859. She died in Manitoba on April 30, 1944.

Gunnlaugur and Guðný came to the West in 1888 with their daughters Rakel and María. They spent the first winter in Mikley but then moved from there in the spring and settled in Selkirk. They lived there after that where Gunnlaugur was a carpenter.
