Guðríður came to the West in 1889 and moved to Winnipeg. The road then led her to Victoria. Hinrik came west to Winnipeg in 1887 and stayed there for a year. He first went south to N. Dakota, but from there he made his way west to Victoria on Vancouver Island, British Columbia in 1891. He lived there for twelve years, did construction work and built himself a nice house. He moved to Point Roberts, Washington in 1904, purchasing a cabin and 40 acres. The land was almost entirely wooded, but he gradually cleared it, built a house and moved the family from Victoria to the peninsula.
