Guðrún Ásgeirsdóttir was born on February 17, 1868 in Borgarfjarðarsýsla. She died in Winnipeg on June 23, 1948.

Finnur came west to Winnipeg in 1893, while Guðrún had arrived there a year earlier. They always lived in Winnipeg, where Finnur once edited Lögberg and ran his own bookstore. Guðrún was very active in the Icelandic associations in the West. She met Lára, the wife of Reverend Jón Bjarnason, and joined the Women’s Association of the First Lutheran Church in Winnipeg, then worked diligently to promote the Icelandic home industry, combing wool and spinning and showing items. Many young women enjoyed her help and learned to knit.
