Guðrún Halldóra Sigurðardóttir was born in the Thingvalla Settlement in N. Dakota on October 1, 1879. She died on November 12, 1952 in Mountain, N. Dakota.

Guðrún was the daughter of Sigurð Kráksson and Kristín Þorsteinsdóttir who came west from Eyjafjörður in 1878. Ásgeir came west across the ocean in 1885 and moved to Winnipeg. From there, he went south to N. Dakota and there Ásgeir settled in Mountain. He worked hard in the fast-growing community and a township in Cavalier County is named after him; it is called Byron Township.
