Guðrún came west in 1876 to New Iceland with her parents, Ólafur Ólafsson and Guðrún Halldórsdóttir. They moved south to Mountain, N. Dakota about 1880. Ole and Guðrún lived in the Hensel Settlement, then in Mountain, but in 1896 they settled in Roseau, Minnesota.
