Guðrún Sigurðardóttir was born in Skagafjarðarsýsla in 1836.
Spouse: 1) Sigurður Jónatansson b. in Skagafjarðarsýsla in 1827, d. in New Iceland during the winter of 1876-77. 2) Pétur Árnason b. 1832, d. 1910.
Children: 1. Árni b. 1858, d. 1876 2. Þórunn María b. 1861 d. 1876 3. Hafsteinn b. June 19, 1865.
Sigurður brought the family west to Manitoba in 1876. He took land in the Árnes Settlement and immediately started building a shelter for the family. He fell ill and died a few months later, as did his two older children. Guðrún and son Hafsteinn spent the first winter in a tent. Guðrún lived on her land for nine years, remarried and continued living in New Iceland. She moved in with son Hafstein and his family to Keewatin, Ontario. Þórunn, Guðrún’s sister, came west with them in 1876.
