Gunnlaugur Oddsson was born in N. Þingeyjarsýsla on March 17, 1850. He died in Selkirk, Manitoba on March 21, 1931.

Gunnlaugur and Guðný came to the West in 1888 with their daughters Rakel and María. They spent the first winter in Mikley but moved from there in the spring and settled in Selkirk. They lived there afterwards, and Gunnlaugur, a carpenter, worked there.
