Guttormur Jónsson Guttormsson was born in the Fljóts Settlement in New Iceland on November 21, 1878. He died in Manitoba in 1966. He had the name Guttormur J. Guttormsson in the west.

Guttormur grew up at Víðvellir in the Fljóts Settlement, lost his mother at the age of eight and his father at the age of eighteen. He went to school in the settlement, worked in Winnipeg for the CPR railway company, but then bought his father’s land in the Fljóts Settlement in 1911 and lived there the rest of his life.
