Halldór would have come west quite early in the Emigration Period. He went to N. Dakota and stayed there until 1899. He then went to Iceland but returned a year later. He settled in Morden, Manitoba, took land there, but never lived there. He lived the longest at the home of Sigríður Gunnlaugsdóttir and her sons Benóní Stefánsson, Sigurður Snorri, and Oddur Tryggvi Oddsson. He became blind and moved to his daughter Ingibjörg, who then lived in the Mouse River, N. Dakota.
