Halldór Jónsson was born in Húnavatnssýsla in 1836. He died in New Iceland on April 30, 1912.

Halldór and Ingibjörg emigrated to Manitoba in 1876 with Indíana and Jóhann. The other children born in Iceland came west and joined them later. They settled in New Iceland and named their farm Halldórsstaðir, located in the Icelandic River Settlement. They also lived in the Geysir Settlement.
