Halldóra came to the West in 1900 with her mother Sigurbjörg Frímannsdóttir. They went to Manitoba and first lived in Gimli, then in Selkirk. Sigurbjörg died there in 1932. Geir was the son of Björn Björnsson and Guðný Valgerður Einarsdóttir who came west in 1883. They settled in Manitoba where Geir and the family lived until 1950. He and his wife then moved to Vancouver.
