Hallfríður Hallgrímsdóttir was born on December 26, 1860 in Eyjafjarðarsýsla. She died in Seattle on November 5, 1930.

Hallfríður Hallgrímsdóttir sailed west with her son Magnús in 1883. Kristján came west to Wisconsin with his parents, Hallgrímur Gíslason and Herdís Jónsdóttir, and his siblings in 1873. They moved to the Garðar Settlement in N. Dakota in 1880 and Hallfríður arrived there in 1883. She and Kristján started farming but they moved to the village in 1894 and ran a hotel there until 1901. They moved west to Seattle where Kristján worked as a carpenter. Hallfríður’s health deteriorated and for many years she was in poor health.
