Hallgrímur Jónsson was born in S. Þingeyjarsýsla in 1885. He died in and air battle over France on September 3, 1918.

Hallgrímur came west to Canada with his sister Sigríður in 1900. They were in Winnipeg in 1903 when his father, Jón Jónsson from Mýri, arrived there with seven of his children. The family first lived in Manitoba but moved west to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan. Hallgrímur was educated and graduated from Wesley College (University of Winnipeg) in 1912. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1916 and fought in France.
