Hallgrímur Sigurjónsson was born on August 23, 1882 in S. Þingeyjarsýsla. He died in Winnipeg on July 19, 1968. He took the last name Axdal in the west.

Hallgrímur came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1890 with his parents, Sigurjón Jónsson and Guðrún Jóhannesdóttir. Life’s road led the family to N. Dakota. Hallgrímur took land in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in 1905 and moved there in 1907. They were there 20 years and then moved to the village of Wynyard where they lived until 1954. He moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba.
