Hannes Hannesson was born on February 2, 1870 in Húnavatnssýsla. He died on October 22, 1926 in Manitoba. He took the name Hannes H. Johnson in the west.

Hannes emigrated to Ontario, Canada with his parents in 1874. They stayed in Kinmount the first winter and then moved to Markland, Nova Scotia. They moved to Winnipeg and spent some time there before moving to N. Dakota where Hannes grew up. He moved to the Argyle Settlement in 1890, bought land and started farming. He lived there until 1916, when he sold his farm and moved to Glenboro. Margrét came west with her parents, Halldór Árnason and Jóhanna Sigurlaug Jónsdóttir, in 1883 to Winnipeg, Manitoba and then they moved to N. Dakota. In 1890,they moved to the Argyle Settlement.
