Hannes was the son of Skúli Árnason who came west from N. Þingeyjarsýsla in 1873. Hannes moved to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan from the Argyle Settlement in the spring of 1905 and took land in the Wynyard community. Margrét came west with her parents, Guðmundur Egilsson and Katrín Magnúsdóttir. She moved to the Lakes Settlement from Winnipegosis with her parents in 1906 and they settled in the Foam Lake community. Hannes and Margrét lived many years on their land, but then sold it and moved to Wynyard.
