Heather Alda Jóhannesdóttir was born in Winnipeg on March 26, 1940.

Heather was the daughter of Jóhannes W Sigfússon and Bergljót Guttormsdóttir in Winnipeg. She earned a B.A. degree in 1961 from United College in Winnipeg and taught in the village of Westwood Collegiate. There she taught English and sang for a while, but then devoted herself to music, studying piano and singing. She performed regularly in concerts in the city and elsewhere in the state. She also sang frequently on the radio and weekly on television.
