Helga Gísladóttir was born in 1841 in Mýrarsýsla. She died in 1902 in Siglunes, Manitoba.

Spouse: Sæmundur Jónsson b. in Borgarfjarðarsýsla in 1847. He took the last name Borgfjörð in the west.

They came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1886 and settled in the Árnes Settlement in New Iceland. Forced to move from there due to floods in Lake Winnipeg, the couple settled in  the Argyle Settlement with their children Ingibjörg and Gísli. In 1892, the family moved to the Siglunes settlement by Lake Manitoba and lived there until 1902. Ingibjörg, the couple’s daughter, contracted tuberculosis and died that year, as did Helga. Gísli survived the illness, but never fully recovered. Sæmundur then moved from there with Gísli and they bought land in the Árnes Settlement. Gísli died a young man and, as Sæmundur was getting older, Jón took over the farm. Sæmundur moved to Winnipeg to live with his son Þorsteinn.
