Helga Jónasdóttir was born in Húnavatnssýsla in 1837. She died in Manitoba on November 19, 1915.

September 14, 1870 7. Þorbjörg b. February 10, 1873 8. Bjarni Ágúst b. April 13, 1880. Helga gave birth to 15 children, 6 died in Iceland, and one (Tryggvi) remained in Iceland. The others all moved to the West.
Helga moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1887 with her youngest child, Bjarni Ágúst, 7 years old. She went south to Mountain, N. Dakota, where she rented a room and worked as a knitter. Little Bjarni went to school there. In the summer of 1910, she visited her son in Manitoba, stayed with them for the next few years, and died there at Björn’s home in New Iceland. Bjarni became blind in Iceland so his son, Jóhann went to Iceland in 1900 and brought him to America.
