They came west to Winnipeg in 1887 and settled in the Hnausa Settlement in New Iceland on land that Eyjólfur Benediktsson had owned and called Eyjólfsstaðir. Jón took over the land and renamed it Jónsstaðir. In 1897 they moved to Selkirk.
