Helgi Ásmundur Sveinsson was born on November 10, 1870 in Bárðardal in S. Þingeyjarsýsla. He died in the Lundar Settlement in 1944.

Helgi came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1883 with his father, step-mother, and siblings. He got a good education and became an engineer. He lived in Minnesota for a while and worked in Argentina. He moved back to Canada and settled in Lundar, where he lived the rest of his life. Kristín came west with her parents, Jón Jónsson and Sigríður Jónsdóttir, who settled in Mikley in 1878. Ljótunn came west in 1900 to Manitoba with her parents, Guðmundur Torfason and Guðrún Þorsteinsdóttir.
