At a young age, he took land in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan, in the Kandahar/Dafoe area. He later sold that land and bought land in the Argyle Settlement in Manitoba. He later lived in Cypress River. Björg was the daughter of Jósep Sigvaldason and Ingibjörg Sigurðardóttir, pioneer settlers in the Garðar Settlement in N. Dakota.
