He came to the West in 1887, initially worked on railroads, but was soon promoted to supervisor of work crews engaged in the inspection and repair of the Canadian Pacific Railroad (C. P. R.) Company’s railroads. He did this in both Manitoba and Saskatchewan. He changed jobs and became a farmer in Saskatchewan in the years 1898-1938. He lived in Craik, Saskatchewan. Þórunn came west with her mother and siblings in 1886.
