Hjörtur Leó Jónasson was born in Húnavatnssýsla on January 6, 1875. He died in Lundar on May 5, 1931. H was known as Reverend Hjörtur Leo Jónasson in the west.
Spouse: September 17, 1923 Stefanía Jónína Björnsdóttir b. 1884 in Borgarfjarðarsýsla.
Children: 1. Hjörtur Björn Jónas.
Hjörtur moved to the West with his parents, Jónas Leo Hjálmarsson and Sæunn Sigurðardóttir in 1883. The family settled in New Iceland, near Gimli, lived there for a few years but then moved from there to Selkirk. Hjörtur finished middle school and B.A. exam in Winnipeg. He studied theology in Chicago and was ordained a priest in St. Paul’s Church in Minneota, Minnesota on May 2, 1909. He then moved to Saskatchewan where he served the Concordia and Convention (Konkordía and Þingvalla) congregations for the next few years. Stefanía was the daughter of Björn Jónsson and Ólafía Stefánsdóttir in Borgarfjarðarsýsla, who moved west in 1886 and took land north of Churchbridge, Saskatchewan.
