Hólmfríður was the daughter of Ólafur Guðmundsson and Konkordía Zophanísdóttir in Alberta. She lived with her first husband in Red Deer 1912-14, Calgary 1914-21 and lastly in Yakima, Washington. Henry Monro was a tailor and Hólmfríður learned how to sew men’s clothing and women’s hat making from him. When he passed away, she continued to work at their store.
