Ingibjörg was just a few weeks old when her parents, Jón Jónasson and Katrín Guðbrandsdóttir, brought her west with them to N. Dakota. Jósef came west with his aunt Halldóra Jósefsdóttir and her husband in 1888. They settled in Hallson, N. Dakota, where his parents, Oddur Magnússon and Margrét Ólafsdóttir, and siblings had settled in 1886. Jósef lived there until the turn of the century but then moved he and Ingibjörg to Blaine, Washington. There he ran a textile shop. They later moved to Lynden, Washington, where they lived in 1960.
