Ingibjörg Kristmundsdóttir was born on November 5, 1865 in Húnavatnssýsla. She died in Gimli on November 18, 1942.

Erlendur and Ingibjörg decided to sail west in the last decade of the 19th century. Ingibjörg moved first with their two daughters to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1898. They had to make ends meet and Erlendur left Iceland on July 7, 1899 and they settled in Gimli in the autumn. They lived there until 1905, then bought land just north of the town where they started farming. In 1912 they settled on land near Gimli and lived there until 1942. After Ingibjörg’s death, Erlendur lived with his children, and was near the Pacific Ocean in Seattle for a while but returned to Gimli and lived there until his death.
