Ingibjörg came west to Manitoba in 1893 and moved to be with her aunt, Valgerður Jónsdóttir, who lived in the Hnausa Settlement. Magnús came west to Canada in 1887 and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba. He worked in the city for some time, then moved west to the Pacific in the spring of 1889 and worked in Seattle for a year. He moved back to Manitoba and got a job with the brothers Jóhannes and Stefán, ship owners in Hnausa. He became acquainted with the fishing industry on Lake Winnipeg and founded a company with Tómas Björnsson in Geysir, Manitoba. Later the company became the Magnússon Bros. Fish Company. Magnús and Ingibjörg lived at Eyjólfsstaðir in Hnausa.

Eyjólfsstaðir in Hnausabyggð was originally built by Eyjólfur Benediktsson. Later the couple Jón Jónsson and Helga Lilja Guðmundsdóttir lived there. Magnús Magnússon built a log cabin in the country in 1897 when he and Ingibjörg started farming. In 1914 he built the house on the picture and they lived there the rest of their days. Photo: HR
