Ingólfur Nikulás Bjarnason was born on September 11, 1899 in Reyðarfjörður in S.Múlasýsla.

Ingólfur came to the West in 1921, went home to Iceland in 1924 and again came west in 1927. He did various jobs in the early years, was, among other things, a fisherman up north in the wilds of Saskatchewan for a while. He lived those years in Leslie in the Lakes settlement (Vatnabyggð). He ended up in Gimli where he was hired as the supervisor of the schools. Steinunn Ingibjörg was the daughter of Guðmundur Þorvaldsson and Rósa Sigríður Jónsdóttir, Káin’s sister. She came west by sea in 1913 and went to live with Jóhannes Davíðsson and his wife Jónína Daníelsdóttir, in Leslie in Vatnabyggð. She lived with them until adulthood.
