Jens Egilsson Laxdal was born on January 18, 1854 in Dalasýsla. He died in Saskatchewan on October 6, 1923. He took the last name Laxdal in the west.

They came to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1888. They spent the first winter there, but then took land in the Þingvalla Settlement in Saskatchewan in the spring of 1889 and lived there until 1897. They then moved to Strathclair, Manitoba where they lived until 1910. Their road then led them to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan where they took land in the Kandahar/Dafoe area. They lived there seven years, but then Jens’ health failed and they moved to Winnipeg. They ended up back in Vatnabyggð and settled in Wynyard.
