Jóhann Bjarnason was born in the Geysi settlement on July 18, 1897.
Spouse: July 2, 1930 Þóra Sigurðardóttir born in Vopnafjörður.
Children: 1. Sigurður Bjarni b. April 6, 1931 2. Þórhildur (Thora) Jóhanna b. August 10, 1933 3. Kristjana b. March 23, 1938.
Jóhann was the son of Bjarni Benedikt Jóhannsson and Steinþóra Þorkelsdóttir, farmers in the Geysir settlement in New Iceland. He completed his primary education in Gimli and then studied at a trade school in Winnipeg. After completing his studies and military service in 1918-19, he turned to trade in Árborg. Þóra was the daughter of Sigurður Kristjónsson and Hildur Sigfúsdóttir.
