Jóhann Halldórsson was born in the west. He is registered as Johann Jacobson in Canada.
His parents, Halldór Jakobsson and Guðrún Ólafsdóttir, came west to New Iceland in 1876 but then made their way to Mountain, N. Dakota. They later moved to Mouse River and then went north to the Þingvalla Settlement in Saskatchewan and then on to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in 1905. Jóhann took land in the Wynyard Settlement, but moved west some years later to the Pacific coast.
