Jóhann Jóhannsson was born on June 23, 1857 in Eyjafjarðarsýsla. He died on March 12, 1935 in Selkirk.

They came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1883 and settled in Selkirk. Lake Winnipeg called to Jóhann and they moved north to Mikley in 1889 and from there to the Isafold Settlement in 1891. They lived there until 1897, when the Lake Winnipeg floods forced them off their land and they returned to Mikley. Fredrika started working on various farms on the island, but Jóhann kept farming their land. In 1929 they moved to Selkirk and lived there with their daughter, Sigríður for the last few years.
