Children: Foster child Alice Juliet. Her father was English, Jónína Stefánsdóttir was her mother. Guðrún and Jóhann cared for the child for four months. Jónína emigrated west in 1878 from S. Þingeyjarsýsla.

Jóhann emigrated west with his parents 1875 and the family settled in Markland, Nova Scotia. From there Jóhann went to Winnipeg in 1882. He was hired as a teacher in Árnes in New Iceland in 1889, but in 1894 he bought land in the Geysir Settlement, naming the farm Arnheiðastaður where he lived for nine years. He taught in N. Dakota 1904-05 and then crossed back into Canada. He settled in Elfros in 1922.
