Jóhann Arngrímur Vigfússon was born in N. Múlasýsla on April 5, 1862. He died in Minneota, Minnesota on July 8, 1950. He took the last name Josefson in the west.

Jóhann came west in 1878 with his cousin and foster brother, Jósef Jósefsson, and first lived with him in Minnesota, although his parents, Vigfús Jósefsson and Sigurborg Hjálmarsdóttir, had come west there the same year. Vigfús took land in Limestone Township, but Jósef took land in Westerheim Township. Jóhann became a successful farmer, prospered well, and cared for the community in various ways. Þórdís was the daughter of Snorri Jónsson from Papey and his wife, Kristbjörg Helgadóttir. Guðný was the daughter of Sigbjörn Sigurðsson and Steinunn Magnúsdóttir.
