Jóhanna’s father, Jónas Bergsson, and his wife, Arndís Magnúsdóttir, came west to Minnesota in 1880. That year, Jóhanna and her husband Páll lived at Máná in Húsvíkursókn. In 1885 Jóhanna and Sigríður came west to Minnesota, together with Baldvin Sigurðsson, a farmer at Glaumbær where she was listed as a housekeeper. Baldvin may have stayed in Manitoba when they came west, but Jóhanna went to be with her parents in Minnesota.
