Jóhanna came west to Winnipeg from Austurgarði in Kelduneshreppur in 1905. She had been a housekeeper on various farms in Iceland before moving west, and when she came to Winnipeg she continued to work in various homes in the city. She later moved west to Vancouver. There she was a housewife in her own home but found time to participate in Icelandic organizations. She was secretary of Sólskin, the Icelandic women’s association in that city for 40 years.
