Björn came west with his mother, Sigríður Jónsdóttir, in 1879. They moved to New Iceland where Jóhanna had arrived in 1887 with her parents, Sigurður Erlendsson and Hólmfríður Steindórsdóttir. Björn did transport on Lake Winnipeg and lived the longest in Selkirk.
