Jóhannes Halldórsson Húnfjörð was born in Húnavatnssýsla on May 10, 1884. He took the name Joe Hunfjord in the west.
Unmarried and childless.
He came west to Winnipeg in 1900, together with his parents, Halldór Sæmundsson and Guðrún Illugadóttir. His parents settled in New Iceland, but he moved to the Brown Settlement. There he worked for another year, then went to his parents in New Iceland and lived with them for the next five years. From there he returned to the Brown Settlement and lived there after that. He wrote the settlement episodes of the Brown Settlement years that appeared in Almanak.
