Jóhannes Jónasson was born on April 30, 1851 in Skagafjarðarsýsla. He died in N. Dakota on July 31, 1934.
Spouse: 1) 1880 Sigríður Þorláksdóttir, d. 1883 2) 1889 Björg Ólafsdóttir b. November 24, 1849 in Skagafjarðarsýsla. She died on February 9, 1931.
Children: With Björg: 1. Jónas Ólafur 2. Sigurjón Júlíus 3. Magnús 4. Anna Margrét 5. Jóhanna Sigurbjörg. Björg also had Arnljót Ólafsson with her first husband.
Jóhannes came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1876. He spent the first winter in New Iceland and then spent the next years here and there in Manitoba. He moved south to N. Dakota in 1880 and first homesteaded in the Pembina Hills, but later moved to the Víkur Settlement. Björg was a widow when she came west with son Arnljót in 1883. Her half-brother, Sigurjón Eiríksson, travelled with them.
