Jón Arngrímsson was born in Duluth, Minnesota on July 31, 1883. He died in Mozart, Saskatchewan on September 2, 1946.

Jón’s parents, Arngrímur Arngrímsson and Þorbjörg Magnúsdóttir, came west to Duluth, Minnesota in 1882 and from there to the Garðar Settlement in N. Dakota in 1885. Sigríður’s father, Magnús Magnússon, came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1876 with his mother, Elín Magnúsdóttir, and step-father, Ólafur Jónasson. They settled in New Iceland and moved from there to the Garðar Settlement in 1881. Jón moved to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in 1905 and lived there the rest of his life.
