Jón Helgi Daníelsson was born in N. Dakota on February 1, 1891. He died on August 21, 1954 in Washington state.

Jón was the son of Daníel Grímsson and Sigríður Þorsteinsdóttir, who came west in 1885 and settled in the Garðar settlement in N. Dakota. Jón moved with his parents in 1906 to the Lakes settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan. They bought land west of Elfros. Jón was in the Canadian army 1915 – 18 and was at the front. He later worked in an electrical company in Indiana, USA, but spent his last years living with his sister Valgerður and her family in Blaine, Washington.
