Jón came west to Manitoba in 1876 and from there to Pembina, N. Dakota after 1880. Björg came west in 1874 with her mother Sigríður Eyvindsdóttir and her husband Lárus Björnsson. They were in Manitoba until 1885 then moved to the Akra Settlement in N. Dakota. Jón and Björg moved west to the Mouse River Settlement in 1892 where Jón took land on the same-named river in Meadow County.
