Jón Eyvindsson was born in Rangárvallasýsla on June 14, 1845. He died in Alberta, Canada on October 3, 1917. He took the name John Evanson in the west.
Spouse: October 20, 1881 Vigdís Jónsdóttir b. June 3, 1845 in the Westmann Islands (Vestmannaeyjar).
Children: John Evan b. October 18, 1883, d. June 7, 1942 in Alberta.
Jón emigrated west to Spanish Fork, Utah on May 17, 1878. He returned as a Mormon missionary to the Westmann Islands in the fall of 1879 and worked there as a missionary until 1881. He returned west across the ocean on July 16, 1881 and was accompanied by Ingveldur Árnadóttir. He married the widow Vigdís later that year, she was the mother of Ingveldur, who came there in 1880. Jón and Vigdís lived in Spanish Fork and later in Scofield, Utah, but like their countless countrymen there, they moved to Alberta, Canada in 1903 and settled in Taber.
