Jón Gottvill Pálmason was born in Skagafjarðarsýsla in 1849.
Not married.
He emigrated west to Ontario, Canada in 1874 and stayed there until 1875. He moved west to New Iceland in 1875 where he lived until 1878, then moved to Winnipeg. From there, he made his way to the Thingvalla Settlement in N. Dakota in 1881, where he took land and lived for ten years. He next tempted the fortune of a new land in the Markerville Settlement in Alberta in 1891 where he remained until 1903, before moving east to the capital of Canada, Ottawa, where he worked on translation and writing. Among other things, he published a summary of Iceland’s history. In 1909 he moved back to Mountain, N. Dakota.
