Jón Guðmundsson: Born at Nes in Aðaldal in S. Þingeyjarsýsla in 1848. He took the last name Goodman in the west. He died in 1944 in Manitoba.
Spouse: Guðrún Eiríksdóttir born in Hróarstungu in N. Múlasýsla in 1855. She died in 1934.
Children: 1) Þórarinn 2) Kristbjörg 3) Helga Sigríður died as a child 4) Guðbjörg b. 1883, d. 1935. Jón’s stepdaughter was Þóra Guðný.
Jón sailed west in 1874 to Kinmount, Ontario and was among the first group of settlers in New Iceland in 1875. Jón worked various jobs and then moved to Winnipeg before settling in the Argyle Settlement in 1882. Guðrún came west with her mother, Helga Arngrímsdóttir, in 1878.
