Jón Guðnason was born in S. Þingeyjarsýsla April 22, 1880. He died in Saskatchewan on October 24, 1914.
Spouse: November 15, 1910 Guðrún Sigurgeirsdóttir b. 1889 in S. Þingeyjarsýsla.
Children: 1. Emilía Sigríður 2. Jón Kjartan Sigurgeir 3. Jónína Guðrún.
Jón and Guðrún came west at the same time to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1893, he was 11 years old and she was 4. Jón grew up in the Argyle Settlement, but in 1906 he moved to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Sasktachewan and took land in the Kandahar/Dafoe area.
The brick house was built by Jón in 1912. It was destroyed by fire in 1955. In the picture, Guðrún is holding Jónína, next to her is Emilía and then Guðrún’s sister with Kjartan in her arms. Jón is next and then two unnamed family friends. Photo: RbQ.
