Jón Hallgrímsson was born on November 22, 1877 in Gimli, Manitoba. He died in Elfros, Saskatchewan on December 1, 1943.
Spouse: August 31, 1919 Sigþrúður Guðvaldsdóttir b. in 1887 in N. Múlasýsla. She took the name Thruda Jackson in the west prior to marriage, the last name Goodmundsson with marriage.

Jón was the son of Hallgrímur Guðmundsson from Stakkahlíð in N. Múlasýsla and Guðrún Margrét Guðmundsdóttir from Hákonarstaðir. He grew up in New Iceland. Sigþrúður came west in 1888 with her parents, Guðvaldur Jónsson and Kristín Þorgrímsdóttir. They settled near Hensel, N. Dakota, moved later to Roseau, Minnesota, and then moved west to Elfros, Saskatchewan. Sigþrúður and Jón lived longest in Elfros in the Vatnabyggð (Lakes Settlement) where Jón was a store manager.
