He was a sheriff in Iceland and emigrated to N. America in 1903. They lived first in Canada and then moved to the Rouseau Settlement in Minnesota where the couple filed for Naturalization in 1910. They later moved to the Lincoln County Settlement, Minnesota. In the 1920 census the family resided in Minneota, Lyon Co., Minn. In the 1930 census he was listed as “Sigurd” in Minneota.
